Library Mission Statement

Library Services is dedicated to meeting the diverse informational, educational, and research needs of students, faculty, staff, and the regional community. It maintains a commitment to excellence as it acquires, develops, and provides access to resources that promote educational achievement and life-long learning.

University Learning and Success

Delta State University Strategic Plan Alignment: Goal 1: Increase Student Learning / Goal 3: Empower Excellence

Goal 1: Assist students in developing skills throughout their academic career and beyond.

1. The library will host workshops and instructional sessions focused on developing research strategies, recognizing misinformation, citing, and presenting information. The sessions will be held in person and online to reach all Delta State University students.
2. The library will host information literacy workshops focused on preparing students for the future beyond college.

Goal 2: Promote information literacy to Delta State University’s faculty and staff.

1. The library will host workshops in partnership with the Gertrude Ford Center for Teaching and Learning.

Community Outreach

Goal 3: Engage Community

1. The library will ensure that services catering to community members are well-advertised and readily available (e.g. Dancing Rabbit, Delta Teachers, etc.).
2. The library will implement summer programming for children of the community (i.e. story times).

Boost Equitable Access to Knowledge

Goal 4: Streamline discovery of library resources (i.e. Mississippi Library Partnership, Interlibrary Loan, Accessibility Room, Instructional Resources Center and its resources).

1. The library will use marketing to advertise its available resources in high-traffic areas.

Goal 5: Create a culturally inclusive space for students and employees with diverse needs.

1. The library will design outreach with and for students from underserved communities.

Enhance Library Resources

Goal 6: Search for and acquire additional funding through grants.

1. The library will investigate where money is needed and seek eligibility for appropriate grants.

Goal 7: Continued innovation of space, resources, and services.

1. The library will continue to search for ways to provide the Delta State University community with the resources it needs (more eBooks, more collaborative spaces, updating and weeding the current print collection).
